But I’m Sure There’s Something In A Shade Of Grey Or Something In Between

Wedding planning is crazy.  You get a few major things figured out and a million additional smaller details pop up … Not to mention the fact that there are always a bunch of other major decisions to be made.  It’s exhausting and sometimes Eric and I are just like, “Why aren’t we eloping?”

Well, there are a few reasons.  Today’s Wedding Wednesday post is going to deal with the pros and cons (as we see them anyway) of having a wedding.

I’ll start with the negatives.

Cons:

1.) Weddings are expensive.  You are literally spending tens of thousands of dollars for one day.  To be perfectly honest, it’s sickening when I think of it that way.

2.) Weddings are stressful.  There are so many details to iron out and decisions to be made leading up to the event … And the actual day isn’t really any less stressful.  You’re the center of attention for an entire evening, and there’s a lot of emotion that goes along with weddings.

3.) There’s a lot of pressure to be the “perfect” bride.  I realize I probably put way too much pressure on myself, but let’s be real … Most people expect the bride to look beautiful and be pretty much perfect.

4.) The guest list.  You inevitably have to leave certain people out because you just can’t afford to host 700 people.  On the other hand, you may also feel a little sad that some people who mean a lot to you definitely won’t be able to attend.

5.) Making sure everyone has a great time.  As I’ve mentioned in other posts, I’m a worrier.  Because of this, I often worry that our guests won’t have a good time.  We’re doing everything we can to ensure they have the best time possible, but we’ll most likely forget something.

Now for the positives!

Pros:

1.) The opportunity to do things the way you want to.  While some people probably won’t like some of the decisions we’ve made, that’s okay … This is the one day that’s about us, so we want everything to reflect that.

2.) Growing closer as a couple.  Eric has been so unbelievably helpful when it comes to wedding planning.  I know this isn’t the case for most grooms, but he’s awesome.  I think overall this experience has allowed us a lot of time for bonding, which is really amazing.

3.) Celebrating with people you love.  Although everyone won’t be able to attend, many of our closest family and friends will be there to support us.  That alone makes it all worth it.

While on the surface it looks as though the cons outweigh the pros, I don’t think that’s the case.  The 3 pros are way more important (at least in my opinion) than many of the cons.  Plus, I really think I would regret it later if we just ran away and eloped.  Sure, we’d save a ton of money and stress … But none of our family or friends would be there.  And that just wouldn’t work for us.
